How I Wash my Makeup Brushes + DIY Brush Cleanser

Hey Beauty Bees,

Last week I mentioned about deep cleaning your makeup brushes to prevent breakouts in my Debunking Nine of the Biggest Beauty Myths post. Today I am going to show you step by step on how I go about doing this tedious task that many makeup lovers groan about. Now experts say you should be cleaning your brushes every single month but I will admit to being past due once in a while especially since I have quite a collection of brushes so I just swap the dirty for clean ones. Yesterday while doing my makeup I noticed that certain brushes definitely needed some attention so I decided that it was time to buckle down and get this chore done with for this month.

In these 9 steps you can have your brushes looking like they did when you first opened their package.

How to Style the Peplum Trend for Everyday

Hey Beauty Bees,

There is a fashion trend that first grew popular in the mid-19th century, made a comeback to high fashion in the 1940's to 1950's and once again in the 1980's. Peplum styles are now here again in newer and better ways. They accentuate a women's shape and highlights the curves of the waist.

Pepluma short flared, gathered, or pleated strip of fabric attached at the waist of a woman's jacket, dress, or blouse to create a hanging frill or flounce

What I love most about the peplum style is that it can work for any type of outfit, day or night. I styled some outfits for different occasion below and used the peplum style in many different ways beyond just a top.

My Spring 2015 Fashion Wishlist

Hey Beauty Bees,

I think I have a case of the Winter blues. I keep catching myself doing online window shopping for spring clothes. It has gotten to the point where I have a bookmark folder full of different items that I am obsessed with and that I hope to get in the near future. Being born in April, Spring is my favorite season, although I do love my Fall sweater, leggings and boots combo. I am just not a big fan of the cold or snow; sunshine and daises really are everything to me.

To help keep myself optimistic for Springs arrival and to help keep myself from spending alot of money, I decided I wanted to put together a Spring 2015 fashion wishlist. This way my readers can give me some opinions on what pieces they like and what I should add into my wardrobe instead of being a shopaholic and buying it all.

The Look of a Designer Bag without the Outrageous Price Tag

Hey Beauty Bees,

So you want that new fancy purse but your wallet can not match the fancy price tag? I found a way to solve this problem. I am not here to promote any sites that are selling fake purses. I am rather showing you cheaper versions of the same style or look of bags. that we all love

Now I have caught myself multiple times in stores like Micheal Kors and Coach just staring at some of my favorite bags but every time I see that price tag I cringe because I know I should not spend that much money on a single item like a purse, at least not this time in my life. Now don't get me wrong, I do own a few name brand purses and wallets which I have to give a huge thank you to my Fiance who was so sweet enough to buy them for me during birthdays and Christmas's, but if I am in the mood to switch up bags I am usually carrying one like below.

Debunking Nine of the Biggest Beauty Myths

Hey Beauty Bees,

Over the past few years I have been learning alot more about makeup and beauty products then I ever have before. Up until recently, there have been alot of beauty facts that I thought to be true, only to find out that they are total myths. Today, I want to bring the truth to you about the most mentioned beauty myths I seem to overhear people talking about. Some of them are even ones that I use to believe in for a long time.

Myth: You'll never outgrow acne.

From personal experience I can state that this is in fact a myth. I am 21 years old and I have dealt with acne throughout my teenage years and still do to this day. Women in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and even 50s can have acne just like teenagers. We can blame this on inconsistent hormone levels that like to fluctuate. This seems to happen mostly around the time of our periods.

Beauty Buzz Trial - Ipsy Bag January 2015 "Fresh Start"

Hey Beauty Bees,

With the beginning of a new year, comes a fresh start with our Ipsy bags. Go figure!! That's the theme of this month's bag. I got more excited with every sneak peek as there were so many products that I wanted to try, unfortunately I did not get any of them. Not the best way to start off the year but I can only have optimism for next month since Ipsy has never steered me wrong before. If you are new to Ipsy, learn about it here.

To start, I wanted to talk about the bag. I did really like how colorful it was. Blue, white and pink went very well together on the basic Ipsy bag design.

Here is what came inside:

Witchcraft Couture Book Review

Hey Beauty Bees,

I just finished reading this awesome book that I wanted to share with you. It is called "Witchcraft Couture" by Katarina West. With one of the themes of the book being fashion I figured it would fit well to talk about on my blog.

I absolutely love to read so if there are ever any books you would like for me to review, just let me know!

About the Author:
Katarina West was born in Helsinki, Finland, into a bilingual family. She spent time travelling in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and went on to study at Queen Mary and Westfield College in London and the European University Institute in Florence, where she completed a PhD in political science. During those student years she started work as a journalist, and continued writing for various Finnish magazines and newspapers for over ten years, writing on various topics from current events and humanitarian issues to celebrity interviews and short stories. She also briefly worked as a university lecturer on humanitarian issues in Northern Italy.
You can visit her website at http://www.katarinawest.com

Summary:
Is there such a thing as stolen genius, and if there is, can it turn against the very person who stole it?

Oscar Pellegrini is a talented fashion designer with a deadly enemy: his own critical mind. He destroys much of what he designs and has been drifting for years. A chance encounter with a former girlfriend triggers a creative crisis so deep that he escapes to Russia. Just when he thinks he has lost everything, he discovers a magical machine, called the Sampo, that can turn ordinary outfits into irresistible shining triumphs. Oscar takes the machine back to Italy - and before he knows it, he has become a fashion messiah Celebrities and socialites are fighting to wear his gorgeous garments. But the happily-ever-after ending turns into a nightmare, as he is haunted by his creations. Drawing inspiration from Finnish mythology and the epic Kalevala, Katarina West has spun a story on madness, guilt and cumbersome art.

My Thoughts:
I will admit it took me a couple of tries to really get into it but after about 40 pages I really got hooked. The author used diary style entries to write the book in the main characters point of view and it worked very well in helping the reader look deep into the troubled soul and mind of Oscar Pelligrini.  It definitely started out very weird and some parts got very dark and oppressive at times so I would not suggest this book for a younger reader but a great book for all adults. The main character and the story line reminded me alot of Holden Caulfield in The Catcher in the Rye. By the end of the book it all ties together well and explains alot of the questions you have about Oscar.

I absolutely love books that have an aspect of fashion in them and this one had that while still maintaining an interesting story line. I also really happy that the setting of the book was based in Italy and other European areas because it definitely worked well with the magical and weirdness aspects of the book, whereas I feel it would have been lost if the setting was in America.

Another reason I really enjoyed this book was how relatable Oscar was to me. I myself have experienced extreme creative blocks to the point where I just wanted to escape it all.

Get your kindle edition of Witchcraft Couture here. Coming out in print soon.

A Weekend in Toronto + Shopping Haul

Hey Beauty Bees,

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and I can not wait to tell you about mine. If you don't already know I have been back in my home town of Sarnia, Ontario for a few months now until my Fiance visa paperwork is finalized to be living in the states permanently. (I will write a whole other experience post about this in the coming weeks.)

This past weekend I had to travel to Toronto, Ontario for a medical exam as one of the steps in my visa application process. With it being the week of my cousins birthday we decided to make it a full weekend event. My brother and I along with my cousin and his wife headed up to Toronto for a NBA game as well as “some” shopping.

Early Friday morning was my appointment in Vaughn, Ontario which is just outside of Toronto. I was very happy to get this over with first before anything else since I am not a fan of blood work which was just one of the many different things that happened during this doctors visit.

Beauty Things That I Suck At

Hey Beauty Bees.

I was thinking alot today about all the different beauty things that I wish I knew how to do to make myself a better blogger and be able to put myself up there with some of the best. That was until I realized that I should not be trying to be like everyone, I should just be myself and do what I know best. Some bloggers are better at certain beauty tasks then others, but we are all different in our own unique ways. There have been many times I have read posts on makeup tutorials and I can never get my makeup the exact same as theirs or there are just certain methods of application that I can not master. This is why I decided do a post about all the makeup tasks that I either do not know how to do or that I just suck at!!

Tips on Picking Out Cute but Reliable Workout Gear

Hey Beauty Bees,

During the month of January many people start to cash in on the new year resolutions they made at the end of the previous year. The most common one is to get in shape and hit the gym.

Yes, In reality I know some people will not make it past a couple months of working out but I thought it would be a cool idea to give you some tips on dressing for the gym. Maybe having the right type of clothing and still looking good at the same time will give you that extra motivation to hit that treadmill or pick up some weights.

Happy New Years Beauty Bees,

2014 is over and 2015 has taken over, but before we let that fully happen I wanted to go through my makeup vanity and show you all the beauty products I have loved over the past year. Most of these will likely continue on in my daily routine for the next months to come as well.

Some of these are still new to me but alot of them are products I have repurchased or are in need of repurchasing.
